Anthems at First Church (Reformed), Albany, NY
Arranged Alphabetically by Composer
by Cliff Lamere, begun 26 Dec 2009; this revision 2 Dec 2011
The table below extends far off the screen to the right. Be sure to check all data for an anthem.
492 anthems are arranged alphabetically by composer's last name. For each anthem, I have tried to find videos on YouTube, and choral parts on CyberBass (pronounced sigh-ber-base) and Choralia. If nothing was found, an anthem is marked with xx. Cyberbass and Choralia concentrate on major classical works, so most of our anthems will not be included on those websites. In addition, many of our anthems have not yet been added to the YouTube collection.
Music Video Resources
1) There is usually a description of the video (who is singing, what they are singing, date they sang it, etc.). That information can be found just below the video, but the explanation is often longer than is visible. To read the rest, click on "Show more" or whatever the currrent words happen to be. Click on the icon at the lower right of the photo to get the video full screen.
2) Vimeo which in Jan 2010 has 74,000 music videos.
3) Metacafe mostly famous composers
Voice Part Resources - These play the notes for each voice part
1) Cyberbass A fantastic site for learning the part you will sing (major works, not many anthems).
2) Choralia The accompaniment is played while your voice part is heard being sung by a synthesizer.
(the following have been searched through Purcell for this catalog)
3) Learn Choral Music (Learn Your Part. Also called "John's Midi File Choral Music Site".)
The works of some foreign composers in this catalog of the anthems of First Church could only be found in their native language.
Life dates of a composer were found in a Schwann Opus catalog or by searching for online biographies.
In a long table, it is inconvenient to return repeatedly to the top to see the column headings. Since the compositions are arranged alphabetically by composer, I have put the column headings every 5 screens apart. The headings are colored so that they are easy to locate. Just hit your Page Up key until you see the headings, view the headings, then hit the Page Down key the same number of times to return to your original position.
With the anthem in front of me, I listened to the beginning of the anthem on YouTube to make sure it was the right one. If we have an arrangement of a work, I listened long enough to feel sure that the video was the same as our arrangement. However, if our anthem is the original music, but the video or audio is someone's arrangement, I may not recognized that fact.
